Synopsis
Mahershala Ali stars as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman trying to keep three incompatible worlds from tearing one another apart: his work, his faith and his responsibilities as a father. After the death of his wife, Latif is forced into a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children while enemies close in and the beliefs that once gave his life structure begin to fracture.
What to Expect
On paper, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother could be sold as a familiar man-on-the-run thriller. Writer-director Bassam Tariq appears to be reaching for something more complicated. The violence is built around a protagonist whose moral code is not absent—it is central to the conflict. Latif is a man who believes deeply, kills professionally and suddenly has to hold a grieving family together.
That contradiction gives Ali a role suited to the quiet intensity that has defined some of his best work. The trailer promises close-quarters action, pursuit and danger, but the more interesting question may be what happens when Latif can no longer separate the person he is at home from the person his work requires him to become.
