Synopsis
Alan Ritchson plays a former soldier pulled into a brutal race against time when a critical medical delivery turns him and an unlikely partner, played by Owen Wilson, into targets of a ruthless cartel. What begins as a transport mission becomes a deadly manhunt in which every delay threatens the life of a little girl waiting for the cargo they are trying to deliver.
What to Expect
Runner has the kind of premise action movies can build a whole engine around: one package, one deadline and a growing number of people determined to make sure it never arrives. Director Scott Waugh keeps the setup clean enough that the appeal can rest on movement, escalating obstacles and the chemistry between two very different leads.
Ritchson brings the obvious physical credibility of a former soldier who can survive the chase. Wilson is the more unexpected piece. His relaxed screen presence gives the pairing the possibility of humor without turning the movie into a parody of its own danger. Angel Studios categorizes the film across action, comedy and thriller territory, and the trailer leans into that collision.
At 97 minutes, Runner is also notably compact for a modern action release. If the finished film follows the trailer’s rhythm, this looks less interested in franchise mythology than in the old-fashioned pleasures of a mission going wrong, a clock running down and two men figuring out how to stay alive long enough to finish the job.

Wilson brings a completely different screen history, from Wedding Crashers and Zoolander to Midnight in Paris and the voice of Lightning McQueen in Cars. His laid-back comic rhythm could be the ingredient that keeps Runner from becoming just another grim race-against-the-clock thriller.

Santoro is familiar to movie audiences from 300, Love Actually, Focus and Ben-Hur. His ability to move between romantic drama, spectacle and villainy gives the supporting cast another performer comfortable inside heightened genre material.
